UC Berkeley's Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences and Center for Computational Biology seek one tenure-track Assistant Professor to develop innovative AI/ML methods advancing biological understanding. Target research areas include AI/ML for predicting cellular phenotypes and responses to genetic, molecular, and environmental perturbations; protein, nucleic acid, and small-molecule interaction modeling; genotype-to-phenotype prediction across scales; AI/ML for genome and biomolecule engineering; and computational genomics integrating single-cell, spatial, imaging, and multimodal data.
A completed doctoral degree (or current enrollment in a doctoral program at application time) is required. Preference is given to applicants whose work demonstrates commitment to advancing understanding of complex biological systems. Salary is $111,400-$163,200 for the 9-month academic year, with additional off-scale salary possible. Start date July 1, 2027; application deadline November 9, 2026.
