Assistant Professor - Biochemistry & Structural Biology Location: Stony Brook University Open Date: Sep 08, 2026 Deadline: Oct 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time Description Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Biochemistry and Structural Biology The Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek outstanding investigators who study mechanistic problems in biological systems at the level of molecular structure, interactions, and dynamics. Competitive candidates will bring approaches that resolve mechanism directly, such as reconstitution of purified systems, single-molecule methods, enzymology, biophysics, and structural biology including cryo-electron microscopy and crystallography. The Department has particular strengths in chromosome biology, the mechanisms of transcription and translation, and lipid and membrane biochemistry. We offer an outstanding environment for a junior investigator building a research program in these or related areas. Stony Brook provides exceptional infrastructure to support this kind of research, including cryo-electron microscopy and genomics core facilities, and close association with the Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology and nearby Brookhaven National Laboratory, home to synchrotron crystallography beamlines at NSLS-II and cryo-electron microscopy and tomography at the Laboratory for Biomolecular structure. Qualifications Required Qualifications: All candidates must have a Ph.D., and/or M.D., in biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, or a closely related biology field, as well as at least two years of postdoctoral experience. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in innovative research and have a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Preferred qualifications: Research program addressing mechanistic problems in biological systems at the level of molecular structure, interactions, and dynamics, using approaches that resolve mechanism directly, such as reconstitution of purified systems, single-molecule methods, enzymology, biophysics, and structural biology including cryo-electron microscopy and crystallography.
