About the role
Cornell University's Department of Food Science seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in food chemistry, with a balanced effort of 50% research and 50% teaching. The department's strategic priorities include chemistry for sustainable foods (sustainably sourced food components, methods to extend shelf life and reduce waste), foods for health (mechanistic studies of bioactives, gut health, and the microbiome), and chemical food safety (sensors for real-time detection of chemical hazards, toxicology). The successful candidate will teach one undergraduate course per semester plus a third course every other year, including a general-education food-science course and an upper-level food chemistry course.
A PhD in food science, food chemistry, chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, nutrition, or a related field is required, along with a demonstrated or emerging national/international research reputation. Base salary for the nine-month appointment is $90,000-$135,000; anticipated start July 2027. Applications received by October 25, 2026 get full consideration.
