About the role
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is hiring an Associate Scientist/Scientist to serve as scientific and operational leader of the newly established Kosinski Laboratory's wet-lab program, opening at St. Jude in January 2027 as Dr. Jan Kosinski relocates from EMBL Hamburg. The lab investigates the influenza A virus infection cycle and develops in-cell structural biology approaches integrating cryo-electron tomography, crosslinking mass spectrometry, and cell biology. The role combines hands-on bench research (maintaining mammalian cell lines, producing and titrating influenza virus stocks, generating recombinant/tagged viruses via reverse genetics, CRISPR-engineered cell lines, cloning, transfections, immunoprecipitation, western blotting, confocal microscopy) with laboratory leadership responsibilities: setting up the new lab, managing inventories and equipment, mentoring trainees, and contributing to manuscripts and grant applications.
