About the role
VIB's Center for AI & Computational Biology and KU Leuven's Department of Human Genetics seek a Principal Investigator to serve as Group Leader and Professor, researching AI architectures for biology, foundation models for genome regulation, protein structure prediction, and computational imaging, with preference for genetics/genomics and synthetic biology applications. The role combines independent research leadership with teaching, supervising PhD students and postdocs, and building collaborative networks across VIB and KU Leuven. Requires a PhD in machine learning, computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics, or computational biology/chemistry, strong ML/programming experience, a competitive funding record, and fluent English (Dutch to CEFR B2 within five years).
