About the role
This is a 10-12 week Gilead summer research internship in oncology target discovery, based in Foster City, CA (hybrid; relocation may be required for the internship period). The intern will help build a proof-of-concept AI-enabled workflow that integrates biological evidence from public and internal sources - gene/protein expression atlases, single-cell and spatial biology datasets, human genetics, functional genomics, and literature - to support oncology target discovery and translational research, exploring large language models and AI-assisted knowledge retrieval to generate structured target review summaries and assess candidate targets for disease relevance and safety.
Candidates must be enrolled full-time in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program (Computer Science, Physics, Math, Statistics, Data Science or a related field), hold a minimum 2.8 GPA, have work authorization without sponsorship, and be able to commit to the full 10-12 week internship between May and August. Preferred skills include Python/R, machine learning, generative AI tools, and familiarity with genomics/transcriptomics. The expected hourly range for this position is $20.00 - $55.00.
