About the role

GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt is hiring an automation engineer to develop and maintain control systems for the FAIR particle accelerator facility. Responsibilities include planning and executing projects in industrial control systems, development and optimization of SCADA/control systems, hardware selection and software implementation, testing and system documentation, and operational troubleshooting support (including on-call duty) in collaboration with international partners such as CERN. Requirements include a Master's degree or Diploma in automation or electrical engineering, expert-level PLC knowledge (Siemens S7-1500, TIA Portal), IEC 61131-3 programming experience, WinCC OA visualization experience, and fluency in German and English. Experience with C#, Python, CERN's UNICOS framework, or accelerator/cryogenic/vacuum systems is a plus. This is a permanent, full-time position.
