About the role
Aarhus University's Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences (Tjele campus) is recruiting a PhD fellow to study microbial transmission pathways linking biomass transport and biogas production. The project involves sampling interconnected sites (biomass vehicles, reception areas, plant environments, machinery), conducting molecular surveillance via PCR/RT-qPCR and metagenomics to track pathogens, running comparative genomic analyses of microbial connectivity across compartments, executing controlled experiments on pathogen persistence, transfer, and inactivation, and integrating findings with biomass origin, transport history, and processing conditions.
Candidates should hold a Master's degree in genomics, veterinary science, microbiology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or a related field, with molecular microbiology/genomics/bioinformatics experience preferred, proficiency in English, and a valid driving license (travel to Danish biogas facilities required). Full-time start January 1, 2027 or later; application deadline November 1, 2026.
