About the role
The University of the West of Scotland's Faculty of Computing, Sciences and Engineering, based at the Lanarkshire campus, is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the UKRI-funded "ReSurface" project addressing polymeric waste from synthetic sports turf fields. The researcher will develop integrated Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC) asset management models to optimize recycling processes for this waste stream across the UK.
Core duties include collecting and analyzing data from recycling facilities, validating models against operational data, researching material recovery and waste characterization, and updating models as new technologies emerge. The role involves collaboration with Loughborough University and industry partners, with regional travel to sites including Grangemouth.
Candidates must hold a PhD in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Waste Management, or a related field, with demonstrated LCA/LCC experience and proficiency in openLCA, SimaPro, Python, Power BI, and Excel (VBA/Power Query). This is a full-time, fixed-term post running until November 2028.
