About the role
Merck (MSD) is hiring a Principal Scientist, Antibody Discovery Innovation for its South San Francisco Discovery Biologics group. The role provides leadership for in vivo antibody discovery strategy — operations, innovation, and externalization — proposes and leads technology development initiatives for in vivo de novo antibody discovery to improve hit quality and shorten timelines, and leads cross-functional discovery project teams alongside therapeutic-area scientists as part of the Antibody Generation leadership team, helping set pipeline, scientific-excellence, and talent-development goals.
The role requires a PhD (with 8+ years) in biophysics, biochemistry, structural biology or a related discipline plus relevant industry experience, extensive antibody drug discovery experience, depth in adaptive immunity and B-cell biology, a track record of driving scientific/platform innovation and leading therapeutic antibody discovery campaigns, and experience leading high-performance teams. Experience with alternative scaffolds (multi-specifics, fusion proteins, ADCs) and applying AI/ML to lead identification/optimization is preferred. This is a South San Francisco, CA role; the posted salary range is $176,200-$277,300.
