About the role

UCL Computer Science's Bioinformatics Group is hiring a Research Software Engineer to lead its contribution to the BBSRC-funded IntegraTED project, integrating three structural bioinformatics resources: the PSIPRED Workbench (machine-learning tools for protein structure analysis), CATH-Gene3D (structural domain classification), and The Encyclopaedia of Domains (cataloguing structural domains in AlphaFoldDB). Responsibilities include improving the reliability and performance of existing ML workflows behind PSIPRED, building a new web interface with the CATH team, and managing the TED data-generation pipeline. Candidates should have strong software development skills in a language used in scientific computing (e.g. Julia, Python), interest in software best practices (source control, testing), and enthusiasm for MLOps and bioinformatics. This is a full-time, permanent position funded through 31 August 2029, salary £43,981 to £54,019.
