About the role
The University of Kent's School of Natural Sciences is offering four fully-funded 3.5-year PhD studentships for a January 2027 intake, spanning thirteen available projects across biochemistry, cell biology, chemistry, computational biology, genetics, and sports/exercise/rehabilitation sciences. Research topics on offer include protein-based cancer treatments, synthetic cellular health monitoring, photocatalytic chemical synthesis, microbiome approaches to neurodegenerative disease, and personalized exercise interventions for Parkinson's disease.
Studentships cover tuition fees, a maintenance grant, and a stipend of £21,805 for 2026/27 for the first three years, plus fees and maintenance for an additional six months. Students are expected to contribute up to 200 hours per year of teaching or demonstrating duties. Open to UK/Home applicants holding a first or upper-second-class honours degree (Master's preferred); candidates must contact a prospective supervisor before applying.
