GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel's Benthic Geomicrobiology Group (Marine Geosystems Research Unit) is hiring a technical assistant/laboratory technician for a 3-year, funding-dependent position studying microbial communities in seafloor sediments. Duties include preparing sampling campaigns with research divers and short ship-based fieldwork, independently performing microbiological/molecular/biogeochemical analyses (DNA/RNA extraction, microscopy), method troubleshooting and optimization, and lab organization/equipment maintenance.
Requires completed training as a biological/chemical technical assistant or laboratory technician, solid practical experience in microbiological/molecular lab methods, willingness to join 1–2 day sea-going expeditions, and fluent German and English. Pay follows the German public-sector scale up to TVöD-Bund E9a; start date January 15, 2027.
