We are seeking a pre-doctoral scientist in the field of geoecology to strengthen research and teaching on the ecological functioning of wetlands. This includes the integration into the group’s research profile and the use of the group’s existing eddy covariance infrastructure (eddy covariance towers equipped with carbon dioxide, water vapor, and methane sensors). Your future tasks: You will actively participate in research, teaching, and administration, which means: While your primary focus will be on research, your work will also include teaching and administrative duties. Writing a dissertation on greenhouse gas exchange in wetlands in the reed belt of Lake Neusiedl and the Pürgschachen Moor Publishing articles in high-impact international journals and presenting at international conferences Independent teaching in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement Participation in the activities of the research group and the deparrtment Contributing to the preparation of research projects and the acquisition of external funding Participating in scientific studies, publication projects, and presentations. You will become an active member of the “Vienna International School of Earth and Space Sciences” (VISESS) doctoral school. We are seeking a candidate with an MSc / diploma in a natural science discipline and expertise in a relevant research area such as biometeorology, geoecology, soil science, or plant ecophysiology, who will complement the existing strengths of the geoecology group. The successful candidate will have: Proven skills in data analysis and programming (R-applications or comparable programming languages) using large datasets Determination and commitment to scientific excellence Willingness and ability to drive to field sites (possession of an appropriate driving licence) and when necessary, to work long hours on-site even under adverse conditions Fluency in English and German Work-life balance: Our employees enjoy flexible working hours and can partially work remotely (within Austria / "telework").
