The Quantum Information Science and Quantum Computation group led by Prof. Philip Walther at the University of Vienna's Faculty of Physics is recruiting a predoctoral/PhD candidate, within the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology and the Austrian Cluster of Excellence quantA. The project focuses on experimental quantum machine learning in photonic platforms, spanning quantum control of single photons, integrated waveguide technology, nonlinear media, superconductor-based detectors, and interferometric precision measurements of weak gravitational forces.
Candidates need a Master's degree in Physics with an experimental quantum optics thesis, experience with table-top optics experiments, proficiency with free-space bulk optics and Python, and fluent English. The position runs an initial 1.5 years, auto-extending to 4 years, starting November 1, 2026; the posting notes it is restricted to qualified female candidates.
