About the role
Cornell University's Department of Food Science is hiring a tenure-track Assistant Professor (9-month appointment) in food chemistry, with a 50% research / 50% teaching split. The department's three priority research areas are chemistry for sustainable foods (shelf-life extension, waste reduction), foods for health (bioactive compounds, gut health), and chemical food safety (sensor development, toxicology, hazard detection); candidates from outside food science are welcome if willing to redirect their expertise toward food-related problems. Teaching duties include one undergraduate course per semester plus a graduate seminar every other year, and mentoring graduate/undergraduate students.
Requires a PhD in Food Science, Food Chemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, Biochemistry, Nutrition or a related field. Annual base salary range for the 9-month appointment is $90,000–$135,000 at the assistant professor rank. Anticipated start is July 2027.
