About the role
The Department of Surgery at McMaster University, in partnership with the Hamilton Health Sciences Centre for Burn Research, is hiring a full-time, three-year fixed-term Assistant Professor to build an independent research program with 60% protected research time. The research focus is burn injury science and related biomedical disciplines: inflammation, wound healing, tissue engineering, stem cell therapies, metabolism, infection/sepsis, organ dysfunction, and translational research connecting laboratory discovery to patient outcomes.
A PhD is required; prior burn-research experience is an asset but not essential, and candidates from related biomedical fields are encouraged to apply. This is primarily a research-faculty appointment rather than clinical staffing — while integrated with a clinical burn center, the role centers on an independent research program, with the remaining time covering teaching and service. Starting salary will not be less than $94,167, set by rank, discipline, experience, and qualifications.
