About the role

The Center of Cancer Research (CCR) at the Medical University of Vienna is a vibrant research institution that is part of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Vienna. The CCR is seeking for a tenure-track Junior Group Leader position in the area of Cancer Prevention and Genome Stability to join our exciting research program in basic, translational and clinical research. We are looking for an outstanding and highly motivated scientist with a PhD and/or MD degree and a successfully completed PostDoc to establish a new research group, addressing the fundamental role of genome maintenance and DNA repair mechanisms in cancer development and prevention, with enthusiasm for inter- and multidisciplinary research and a strong commitment to teaching. The candidate is expected to have outstanding expertise in Cancer Biology and Prevention, Genome Stability, DNA Damage Response and Repair, and to lead a team conducting internationally recognized and innovative research to advance our understanding of how endogenous and environmental factors compromise genome integrity and contribute to cancer initiation, progression, and therapeutic response. Through the integration of recent advances in molecular biology, genetics, functional genomics, and multi-omics approaches, the new research group is expected to further strengthen, expand, and connect existing research clusters within the university. Applicants must provide a record of scientific excellence through high-profile publications and acquisition of competitive funding/fellowships. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong and exciting research program, to catalyze the clinical translation of cancer biology concepts and contribute to common activities of the research center. The new research group will benefit from the attractive interdisciplinary environment and the close cooperation with the Comprehensive Cancer Center and the various associated clinical departments of the Medical University Clinics/General Hospital, Vienna. The successful candidate will be appointed a full-time position for an initial term of six years with tenure-track possibility following successful evaluation.
