About the role
The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine's MalariaGEN team is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computational Vaccine Discovery to build a decision platform for malaria vaccine design, addressing the challenge that a single parasite proteome can generate millions of possible peptides requiring simultaneous constraint satisfaction. Responsibilities include developing scalable, tested, and documented local and cloud workflows for peptide evaluation, combining antigen-presentation methods with HLA population coverage and parasite variation/conservation evidence, developing transparent scoring, filtering, and optimisation approaches for candidate comparison, and working with international collaborators on analysis and interpretation.
Candidates need a PhD in a relevant quantitative or life-science discipline (or equivalent substantial experience), strong Python programming skills, experience analyzing large, complex biological/biomedical datasets, and a background in statistical analysis, machine learning, or quantitative method development, ideally with HPC or cloud computing workflows. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract in Liverpool, paying a competitive salary, closing 1 November 2026.
