About the role

The Department of Neurobiology in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University seeks to recruit a full-time tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2027.  We are particularly interested in candidates working in the areas of Molecular and/or Developmental Neuroscience who use innovative approaches to address fundamental questions relating to the development and function of the nervous system. Areas of interest include (but are not limited to) genomics, gene regulation and epigenetics, specification of neuronal identity, synapse formation and function, circuit wiring and development—preferably in the context of whole-animal nervous system function and behavior. The candidates should demonstrate significant potential for innovation, scholarship, and commitment to excellence in both research and teaching. Applicants holding a Ph.D. and/or an M.D. degree and demonstrating an outstanding record of scientific achievement will be considered. Successful candidates will be expected to establish and maintain a high-profile research program with substantial extramural funding. Northwestern University offers a rich and vibrant intellectual environment and state-of-the-art research facilities. The appointee will join a broad, interactive community including colleagues in the Interdepartmental Neuroscience program which comprises over 130 faculty drawn from the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, the McCormick School of Engineering, the Feinberg School of Medicine, the School of Communication, the Stanley Manne Children's Research Institute, and the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab.  Interactions are fostered by numerous institutes and centers including the National Institute for Theory and Mathematics in Biology (NITMB), Chemistry of Life Processes Institute, Querrey Simpson Institute for Bioelectronics, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Chicago, Center for Sleep and Circadian Biology, Center for Genetic Medicine, and the Simpson Querrey Institute for Epigenetics. Applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV, contact information for three referees, a description of research plans (3 pages), a teaching statement (1 page), and three publications or preprints (all in PDF format). For details and information about how to apply, please see the application page. Inquiries can be directed to Stephanie Pociask at neurobiofacsearch@northwestern.edu. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal comparators; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
