About the role

The American Museum of Natural History is recruiting a tenure-track Assistant Curator/Assistant Professor in the Department of Ichthyology or Mammalogy to lead a collections-based research program on fish or mammal evolution and biodiversity, beginning July 2027 or later. Approaches integrating genomics, imaging, computational biology, and biodiversity informatics with traditional organismal study are preferred. The role combines original research with stewardship of one of the world's premier vertebrate zoology collections, teaching and mentoring PhD students through the Richard Gilder Graduate School, contributing to public exhibitions on climate and biodiversity, and leading field expeditions. Candidates should have a record of high-impact scholarship and strong potential for extramural funding. The position is based in New York City; applications are due November 1, 2026, with review beginning November 10, 2026.
