About the role

Tenure: Fixed term for 18 months from September 2026 Hybrid working: 2 days/week on Campus or minimum requirement of 40% on Campus, with 60% considered desirable where possible We are seeking an outstanding postdoctoral research associate for a multidisciplinary programme combining protein-guided mineral growth with controlled microdroplet reactions, flow and digital deposition to create hierarchical functional materials. The first target of the programme is direct-to-shape rare-earth-free magnetic materials, reducing use of critical minerals and material waste; later work may extend the platform to advance battery cathodes, subject to programme stage gates. Based at Liverpool, this collaborative project is between the Universities of Cambridge (Institute for Manufacturing, IfM), Liverpool (Chemistry and Materials Innovation Factory, MIF), and Amsterdam (UvA/Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics, AMOLF). If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31. Our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion We are committed to enhancing a workforce as diverse as our community and particularly encourage applicants who are of minoritised genders and ethnic backgrounds, living with a disability, and/or are members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
