About the role
The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) is hiring a Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Viral Genomics and Evolution for its Computational Biology for Infection Research department, within the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre VirusREvolution. The work combines computational and experimental approaches to characterize viruses and enable rapid risk assessment of emerging pathogens: developing computational methods to detect emerging viral lineages, analyzing large-scale viral genomic and epidemiological datasets, integrating evolutionary data with experimental findings, and collaborating with interdisciplinary partners.
Requirements are a PhD in bioinformatics, computational virology, computer science, or a related field, prior research experience with strong programming skills, proficiency in phylogenetics (preferred), and excellent English. Pay is at the E13 TV EntgO Bund scale, full-time (39 hrs/week), fixed-term through December 31, 2028, with flexible hours and home-office options; application deadline is November 8, 2026.
