About the role
The University of Birmingham's School of Chemistry is hiring a Research Fellow in Electron Microscopy and Image Analysis for the ARIA-funded Hephaisteion project, which aims to turn proteins into programmable templates for inorganic membranes with precisely controlled pores for separation technologies. The role centers on developing electron microscopy and image-analysis workflows to study protein assembly formation and performance defects, including scanning electron microscopy work, sample preparation, quantitative image analysis, contributing to publications, and engaging with ARIA workshops.
Candidates need a relevant degree and PhD (or near completion), practical SEM and sample-preparation experience, and strong quantitative image-analysis skills; TEM experience is desirable but not required. The role is fixed-term for one year with possible extension through July 31, 2029, full-time (37.5 hrs/week), starting at £36,636 to £46,049 with progression to £48,822. Application deadline is November 3, 2026.
