About the role

Merck's Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program is hiring a postdoctoral fellow within the Translational Imaging group at its Research Laboratories in South San Francisco. The fellow will contribute to the development and application of advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopy (MRS) approaches to investigate skeletal muscle physiology, metabolism, and health in metabolic disease, focusing on quantitative imaging biomarker development and noninvasive assessment of muscle composition, function, and energetics in preclinical models. Responsibilities include developing and implementing advanced MRI/MRS methodologies, contributing to MRI pulse sequence development and programming, analyzing complex imaging datasets with quantitative and computational approaches, and publishing/presenting results. Candidates must currently hold, or receive by spring 2027, a PhD in physics, medical physics, biomedical/electrical engineering, imaging science, biophysics, applied mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
