About the role
The Helmholtz Association (Interface Design group, part of HZB) is recruiting a PhD student to investigate electrocatalyst materials for green hydrogen production using synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopies. The role involves studying the chemical and electronic structure of electrocatalysts, planning and conducting experiments in the lab and at synchrotron radiation sources, collaborating with researchers in the ASCEND project and at HZB, and contributing to data curation, reports, presentations, and publications.
Candidates need a Master's degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or an equivalent field, plus experience with electrocatalysis and electrochemical techniques; knowledge of X-ray spectroscopy, ultra-high vacuum equipment, nanomaterial synthesis, Python, or data fitting is advantageous. Based in Berlin, Germany, this is a fixed-term position requiring C1-level English; application deadline is October 28, 2026.
