About the role
This postdoctoral fellowship is in the lab of Jason Chin, Founding Director of the Generative Biology Institute (GBI) at the Ellison Institute of Technology, working on Project Monera: building multi-modal generative models of whole organisms, starting with E. coli. The lab's mission is "making biology engineerable" — enabling rapid, scalable, precise genome synthesis and determining which DNA sequences produce desired biological functions.
The fellow will run genome-engineering experiments to generate genetic variation at scale, design scalable biological measurements across one or more modalities, analyze complex datasets computationally, and collaborate with synthetic biologists and AI scientists. Requires a completed PhD in synthetic biology, genomics, cell biology or a related field, a strong publication record, and experience with genomic analysis, automation or computational tools; familiarity with machine-learning concepts is a plus.
