About the role

Newcastle University's Faculty of Medical Sciences is recruiting a Research Assistant/Associate in Childhood Cancer Genomics to join Dr. Sarra Ryan's team, using ultra-long-reads and hybrid sequencing approaches to explore highly repetitive DNA sequence in relation to genomic instability in childhood cancer. Duties include data collection, analysis, and interpretation; laboratory protocol development using Oxford Nanopore and PacBio sequencing; bioinformatic analysis with cloud computing support; and research dissemination. Research Assistant applicants need a good honours degree in molecular biology, bioinformatics, or cancer genetics; Research Associate applicants additionally need a PhD in cancer, genomics, or bioinformatics. This is a fixed-term, full-time post for 4 months (1 October 2026 to 31 January 2027).
