This 3.5-year DPhil studentship in Oxford's Department of Engineering Science combines synthetic biology with control engineering, AI, and robotics, funded through the EEBio programme grant. Supervised by Prof Harrison Steel and Prof Antonis Papachristodoulou, students will engineer microbes, develop computational methods for biosystem design, or build automated experimental platforms depending on background and interest, with links to protein engineering and biomedical applications. Start October 2027; closes 2 December 2026.
