The Ellison Institute of Technology's Plant Biology Institute seeks a Scientist to identify genetic targets and engineering strategies for modifying plant cellular traits. The role involves developing and testing hypotheses on mechanisms controlling plant cell growth, division and morphology; prioritizing candidate genetic targets from literature and experimental data; designing genetic perturbation strategies (knockout, silencing, overexpression); and running iterative design-build-test-learn cycles with EIT's molecular engineering and plant transformation teams.
Requires a PhD in plant cell biology, developmental biology, biotechnology, genetics or a related discipline, with experience validating gene-to-phenotype hypotheses and familiarity with plant genome-editing approaches. Postdoctoral experience, plant cell culture/protoplast work, transcriptomics and high-throughput imaging are desirable.
