About the role
The University of Cambridge's Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Mathematical and Statistical Methods for Genome Privacy (fixed-term, full-time). The role develops mathematical and computational approaches for privacy-preserving human pangenome references, including differentially private construction and analysis of pangenome graphs, privacy-aware graph algorithms, statistical analysis of privacy-utility trade-offs, and algorithm optimization for large genomic datasets, with considerable freedom to shape the research direction within the statistical laboratory.
Requires a PhD (or near completion) in statistics, mathematics, computer science, computational biology, or a related field, with background in differential privacy, graph theory, optimization, statistics, or computational genomics preferred. Note: candidates must not have been UK residents in the preceding 24 months or currently employed by a UK organization. Closes 31 October 2026.
